February 28, 2024. The State House Anti-Corruption Unit togther with Police in Sironko have arrested and araigned the Busita Sub County LC 3 Chairperson Mukota Patrick Benerd, Nambozo Hellen and Magomu Eddy before the Sironko Chief Magistrates Court. The trio were charged with unauthorized use or interception of computer services and theft.
The accused together with their accomplices, who are still at large, utilized a SIM card registered under Magomu Eddy’s name to fraudulently obtain UGX5M from the PDM Wendi App accounts of five victims. The victims reported this matter to the RDC Sironko, who forwarded it to the PDM Secretariate who requested the Unit to investigate the matter.
Following this investigation, Nambozo Hellen was convicted on 22 March 2024 after she pleaded guilty to 11 counts including theft, unauthorized use of computer services and conspiracy. She entered a plea bargain with prosecution. As part of her plea bargain, she refunded the UGX 5Million taken from five victims’ PDM Wendi App accounts and also paid a fine of UGX 550,000 to Court. Her other co-accused Mukota Patrick Benerd, the LC 3 Chairperson and Mungoma Eddy are still in the court over the same. The refunded money was returned to the beneficiaries.
