The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU), working together with the Uganda Police Force and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in Tororo District, has arraigned Mr. Asangai David, a Community Development Officer, before the Chief Magistrates Court in Tororo.
Mr. Asangai faces charges of Theft and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony.
According to prosecution, in 2023, the accused, together with others still at large, conspired and stole millions of shillings meant for the elderly under the Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment (SAGE) program in various sub-counties across Tororo and Busia districts.
Additionally, investigations have revealed that the accused and his accomplices are linked to the misappropriation of funds allocated to the Peace, Recovery and Development Plan (PRDP) project in 2022, also in Tororo District.
Mr. Asangai has been remanded until 19th March 2025 as inquiries continue.
