A whistleblower reported under-declaration and non-payment of taxes and poor client handling at Wakiso MZO. The Unit, Police, the Office of the Auditor General and the National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U) made an impromptu visit to the office to check on its operations. Investigations confirmed that officials (clerical officers and registrars) at the MZO had disregarded checks to ensure payment of taxes. As a result a number of transactions were processed without taxes being paid. The officers were later charged with abuse of office and causing financial loss.
